Our week was supposed to involve us preparing for the WreckMaster 2/3 class this weekend, get the bus preped and the the casualtys for the modules...BUT we had a huge snow storm. Sure it was only 8 inches but we never see snow. Sunday night the snow started to fall and Monday morning the calls started flooding in. We did over 18 winchouts in about 12 hours with 2 trucks. I had my little mpl40 twin line wrecker being operated by one of my newest employees while I used my 2023 F350 with a hitch winch. Talk about dangerous! Not the weather or the work, the dangerous part was the hitch came from Harbor Freight for $699. lol I have about $1000 invested in it with the bracket for the hitch plus the battery. It works flawlessly. I wasn't ready for the storm so I thru it together and stopped on my way to the first job at Advance for the battery. I didn't know where I would put the battery but turns out it fit perfectly on the bumper where the license plate is and was caged in by the winch in the hitch. I have plans of making a 7 blade plug in to charge the battery while driving and quick connects so I can take the battery off if I don't want to leave it out in the open. This morning is Tuesday and the phones started at 6 for us with a heavy tow in Tennessee and a wreck in West Virginia and another winch for my new guy in Pigeon Forge. I did, at the beginning, of this blog want to talk about why one of my newest drivers was in the wrecker instead of a seasoned operator, I wanted him to get a lot of experience doing these winchouts. I would love for you readers to leave comments about what you have been experiencing with your weather and the calls you have seen. Let me know if you enjoy these blogs.

Wow Tyler, it seems like you had your work cut out for you today! We haven't seen much snow here in Asheville, NC, however, I hear that Cherokee got a good amount! We are trying to be prepared for it here, when it decides to finally come. I have heard good things about those Badlands winches, did you opt for the synthetic or stick with the steel wire rope? Regardless, I think it was wise to invest in that for your pickup, when the calls are pouring in having that extra truck makes the day go by a little smoother.
Cheers!
